Reflecting on my journey as a Microsoft Certified Coach, I am struck by the profound impact of collaboration and the extended community on my professional growth. One of the most valuable aspects of my role has been the opportunity to share ideas and insights with others in the Microsoft Certified Coach group. This vibrant community of educators and coaches has been a wellspring of inspiration and support. Engaging in discussions, sharing resources, and learning from the experiences of others has not only enriched my practice but also fostered a sense of belonging and mutual growth.
The Microsoft Certified Coach training has been instrumental in broadening my perspective on instructional (IT) coaching. The diversity of thought and experience within the group has challenged me to think critically about my own practices and consider new approaches. For instance, a fellow coach shared a strategy for integrating technology into lesson plans that I had not previously considered. Implementing this strategy in my own coaching sessions led to significant improvements in teacher engagement and student outcomes. This experience underscored the value of being part of a professional learning community where ideas are freely exchanged and collective wisdom is harnessed for the benefit of all.
In addition to the online community, my participation in the our school group committee for digital transformation has been a pivotal aspect of my professional development. This committee, composed of educators, administrators, school leaders and IT professionals, is dedicated to advancing the use of technology in our schools. Being part of this committee has allowed me to contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of digital initiatives that enhance teaching and learning. It has also provided a platform for me to advocate for the needs and perspectives of the teachers, administrators and IT professionals I coach.
Working on this portfolio has deepened my understanding of the complexities involved in digital transformation. It has also highlighted the importance of collaboration between different stakeholders. For example, a recent project involved the rollout of a new learning management system. By working closely with the IT team, we were able to address technical challenges and ensure a smooth transition for administrators, teachers and students. This collaborative effort not only strengthened my relationship with the IT team but also reinforced the importance of a unified approach to digital transformation. Balancing coaching and administrative tasks can indeed be challenging, but with some strategic planning and prioritization, it becomes manageable.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role has been the growth in my relationships and collaboration with the teachers and IT team I coach. Building trust and rapport with teachers has been essential in creating a supportive and productive coaching environment. Through regular meetings, classroom observations, and feedback sessions, I have been able to tailor my coaching to meet the specific needs of each teacher. This personalized approach has led to meaningful improvements in instructional practices and student learning experiences.
Similarly, my collaboration with the IT team has been crucial in bridging the gap between technology and pedagogy. I also have to highlight the journey with Steven to accomplish this portfolio. By working together, we have been able to develop and implement technology solutions that are both effective and user-friendly. This partnership has also enabled us to provide timely support and professional development, not only for teachers, but also towards eachother, ensuring they/we feel confident and competent in using new technologies. A big thank you to Steven for the collaboration and working hours to present you this portfolio.
Reflecting on this journey, I realize that my biggest area of growth as an instructional coach has been learning to lean into my strengths when faced with difficult situations. Early in my career, I often felt the pressure to do good for everyone. This unrealistic expectation led to burnout and frustration. Over time, I have come to understand that my strengths lie in building relationships, facilitating collaboration, and fostering a growth mindset. By focusing on these strengths, I have been able to navigate challenges more effectively and provide more meaningful support to the teachers and teams I coach.
One particular instance stands out in my mind. A teacher I was coaching was struggling with integrating technology into her lessons. Despite my best efforts, she was resistant to change and felt overwhelmed by the new tools. Instead of trying to force a solution, I leaned into my strength of building relationships. I took the time to listen to her concerns, validate her feelings, and provide reassurance. This approach helped to build trust and open the door to more productive conversations. Eventually, we were able to find a solution that worked for her and her students. This result was so satisfying!
In conclusion, my journey as an Microsoft Certified coach has been marked by the value of sharing ideas, participating in collaborative initiatives, and building strong relationships. By leaning into my strengths and recognizing my limitations, I have been able to grow both personally and professionally. The support and collaboration of my colleagues, both online and in my school group, have been invaluable in this journey. As I continue to evolve in my role, I am committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration, knowing that together, we can achieve great things. This mindset is future proof!

Throughout the renewal of our digital strategy, it is essential to reflect on the journey that brought us here and the principles guiding our path forward. This strategy is not just a document; it is a beacon for our team operations and policy decisions, designed to be powerful, clear, and transparent. We recognized early on that the success of this strategy would hinge on thorough preparation and genuine engagement with our colleagues. Rather than simply presenting a finished product, we took the time to craft a narrative that would resonate with everyone. This approach was crucial in ensuring that our colleagues not only understood the strategy but also felt a sense of ownership and commitment to its goals.
One of the core tenets of our strategy is clarity. We aimed to eliminate ambiguity and provide a straightforward roadmap that everyone could follow. Transparency was equally important; we wanted our colleagues to see the rationale behind our decisions and trust in the direction we are heading. By being open and honest, we fostered an environment of trust and collaboration.
Our goal was to empower our team members, giving them the tools and confidence to embrace the changes ahead. We knew that simply imposing a strategy would not suffice. Instead, we sought to convince and inspire, ensuring that every team member felt motivated and aligned with our vision. This collective conviction is what will drive us forward and enable us to achieve our objectives in the future. As we move forward, it is important to remember that this strategy is a living document. It will evolve as we learn and grow, and it will continue to serve as a guide for our decisions and actions. We are committed to maintaining the principles of clarity, transparency, and empowerment, and we are confident that, together, we will navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
